Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut once again found herself at the center of controversy after suggesting that the three repealed farm laws should be reinstated. The remarks sparked sharp criticism, including from her party, the BJP. Following the backlash, Ranaut, also the Mandi Lok Sabha MP, publicly apologized and retracted her statement.
During an interview, the controversy erupted on Tuesday when Ranaut stated, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. The farmers should themselves demand it.” She argued that the laws were beneficial for farmers and expressed her belief that the laws were initially repealed in response to protests in certain states.
However, the BJP quickly distanced itself from her comments. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia released a video message clarifying that Ranaut’s remarks were her personal views and did not represent the party's stance on the farm laws. He emphasized that she was not authorized to speak on behalf of the party.
In response, Kangana Ranaut issued a public apology, acknowledging that her remarks had caused disappointment among several people, including her party colleagues. “I take my words back,” she said, stressing the importance of respecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to withdraw the laws. She further noted that her position as a politician required her to align her views with the party's principles.

Ranaut's comments come in the wake of a series of controversial statements she has made on the farmers' protest, with the BJP previously rebuking her for drawing inappropriate parallels between the protests and violence in other countries. Last month, the party urged her to exercise restraint after she made alarming claims about the nature of the protests.
The actor-turned-politician expressed her regret, reiterating her support for the Prime Minister and underscoring the collective responsibility of BJP members to stand united on key decisions.
